 Moose Mountains

GNRRA News and Storiesbuckmaster writes "Hello all members, I am a new member and will try to keep an updated record on some of the current events that are happening around the Moose Mountains. For those of you who have not heard of the Moose Mountains, we are located in the south eastern corner of Saskatchewan. I have recently wrapped up the annual sausage festival, succesfully casing a whitetail buck, rough scoring 173 gross. Spending many days on foot I only encountered one other hunter in the area on foot. On other occasions I noticed a handful of hunters who would rather drive the fringe area in quest of a monster buck. Speaking with the local residents and hunters, it has been determined once again that hunting on foot is the key to a trophy whitetail deer in this area. However, several 150 class bucks where taken from roadside vantage points. Hunting the 2004 rifle season required patience and a high level of awarness as the weather was mild with little or no snow cover on the ground. The rut was in full swing on opening day and continued through until the middle of the last week. Rattling proved to be effective, however with the mild weather and plenty of feed in the bush, the does were not grouping up. With smaller concentrations of animals a larger hunting area had to be covered unless preseason scouting was done.(Probably the reason for so many vehicles, or is it just laziness?) Buckmaster "
